Artificial intelligence is opening new chapters in the power sector and is becoming one of the most powerful enablers of its digital transformation. The importance of this topic was recently highlighted at the panel “Opening the Door to AI in Energy,” held as part of the professional conference “Energy, Projects, Security” on Zlatibor, where leading experts from academia and industry shared their insights and practical experiences.
The role of the Institute Mihajlo Pupin in the digital transformation of the power sector was presented by Bojan Papić, Director of IMP-Automatika.

“At the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, we view artificial intelligence as an operational imperative rather than a passing global trend. AI enables more precise management of complex systems, the anticipation of disruptions, and real-time optimization of resources, capabilities that are essential in the context of rising demand, decentralization, and the increasing share of renewable energy sources,” Papić stated.
Aleksandar Rikalovic moderated the panel from the Institute for Artificial Intelligence of Serbia. Other participants included Mileta Zarkovic from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Katarina Andrejevic, from Joint stock company “Elektroprivreda Srbije”, Danilo Savic, and Vladimir Poluzanski from the Nikola Tesla Institute of Electrical Engineering.
