Prof. Sanja Vraneš, PhD, is jointly appointed as the Director General of the Institute Mihajlo Pupin and as a Full Professor of Computer Science at the University of Belgrade. Before that, she was the Scientific Director of the Institute for 10 years. From 1999 she has been engaged as a United Nations Expert for information technologies, and from 2005 as an expert evaluator and reviewer of EC Framework Programme Projects and H2020 projects. Her research interests include artificial intelligence, semantic web, linked data web, knowledge management, decision support systems, etc. In these areas she published over 240 scientific papers. She serves as a reviewer for respectable international journals, such as IEEE Transaction on Computer and IEEE Intelligent Systems magazine. She was a postdoctoral research fellow at the University of Bristol, England in 1993 and 1994. In the period 1999-2004 she was a Scientific Consultant at the ICS-UNIDO, International Center for Sceince and High Technology in Trieste, Italy. She has also served as a project leader and/or principal architect of more than 20 complex commercial software projects. She has taken part in 35 research projects funded by the European Commission – 5 H2020 projects (REACT, LAMBDA, RESPOND, In-BETWEEN, SLIDEWIKI), 16 FP7 projects (LOD2, EMILI, GEO-KNOW, EPIC-HUB, CASCADE, SPARTACUS, REFLECT, PERFECTION, ENERGY WARDEN, HELENA, HYDRO-WEEE, META-NET, HYDRO-WEEE-DEMO, PROCEED, GENDERTIME, ICT-WEB-PROMS), 5 CIP/EIP projects (CESAR, GREEN, WEEEN, IMAGEEN, SHARE-PSI), 3 FP6 projects (SARIB, PROMETEA and Web4WEB), 3 Interreg projects (STRIM, I2E, MOVECO), 1 IPA Adriatic (PACINNO), 1 SEE project (FORSEE), 1 COST action (IC1304). She is a member of IEEE, ACM and AAAI. She is also a full member of the Serbian Academy of Engineering Sciences and served two terms (10 years) as a member of the National Scientific Council. She received numerous honors and awards for her work, including the Medal of Honor (Cavaliere dell’ordine della stella d’Italia) of the President of the Republic of Italy (2017), Nikola Tesla Award, Best software package award, Best paper award, University of Bristol postdoctoral fellowship award, etc. She speaks five languages.

nikolatomasevic-9691776Nikola Tomašević, PhD, is appointed as the Director General of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute. Starting from January 2021, he was a Scientific Director of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, and previously from 2019, he was appointed as the Scientific Coordinator of the Fraunhofer-Pupin Joint Project Office. He received a Dipl. Ing. Degree in July 2007 at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, at the Department of Communications and Information Technologies, where he also defended his PhD thesis in December 2013. Currently, he is involved in technical management and research activities of R&D projects in various domains. He is managing several EU HORIZON EUROPE projects on behalf of the Institute (such as IntelliLung, FEDECOM, OMEGA-X). Under the EU H2020 Work Programme, he is involved as project coordinator (SINERGY), technical coordinator (NEON, HESTIA and REACT), and he is taking an active role in several other H2020 projects (such as AI-PROFICIENT, TRAPEZE, PLATOON and LAMBDA). So far, he took part in a number of EU H2020, FP7 and FP6 projects (H2020 RESPOND (technical coordinator), InBetween, SlideWiki, FP7 EPIC-HUB, CASCADE, EMILI, Reflect, and FP6 Web4Web). In addition, he was actively involved in R&D projects financed by the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of Serbia (SOFIA and AMICA), as well as by the Serbian Science Fund in Applied AI Programme (ARTEMIS). In his scientific career, his research activities were focused on artificial intelligence, energy efficiency, industry 4.0, emergency management, recommendation and support systems, semantic web technologies, mobile communication systems, learning analytics and natural language processing. He (co-)authored more than 50 scientific and technical papers as journal, conference and workshop contributions, and contributed to realization of more than 50 technical solutions. He is also involved as lecturer at academic studies at the University of Belgrade, as well as the Metropolitan University, Belgrade. He served as a reviewer for respectable journals (Applied Energy (Elsevier), Transactions on Wireless Communications (IEEE), International Journal of Neural Systems (World Scientific), Artificial Intelligence Review (Springer), etc.), and as a PC member and session chair of international conferences (such as TELFOR and ICTERI).

Dr Marko Batić (M) is currently appointed as the International Cooperation and Technology Transfer Director of the Institute Mihailo Pupin. Previously, he was the head of IMP’s Fraunhofer-Pupin Joint Project Office, responsible for the R&D projects funded by the European Commission Framework Programmes. Moreover, he served as the EC’s external expert for evaluation process of H2020 proposals. He received the BSc, MSc and PhD degrees from the School of Electrical Engineering, the University of Belgrade (RS). He graduated at the Department of Communications and Information Technologies while he defended his PhD thesis at the Department of Software Engineering. His research interests include digitalisation of energy sector with ICT applications in the domain of energy efficiency, smart energy management and smart grids. Presently, he is managing several EU H2020 and HE projects on behalf of IMP (ECHO, R2D2, TRINITY and IDEAS) and takes an active role in several other H2020s (REACT, HESTIA and SINERGY). He also manages a research project funded by the Serbian Science Fund, Applied AI Programme (ARTEMIS). Previously, he took active part in a number of EU H2020s, Fp7s and Interreg (H2020s InBetween (technical coordinator), RESPOND, FP7s EPIC-HUB, CASCADE and EnergyWarden, Interreg DTP MOVECO) as well as scientific projects financed by the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of Serbia (SOFIA and AMICA). Moreover, he managed several commercial software development projects involving enterprise information systems. The aforementioned projects are dealing with smart energy management, integration of renewable energy technologies, smart grids, energy efficiency and demand side management. In particular, his main research activities and interests involve multi-criteria decision support systems for planning of hybrid renewable energy systems, energy management systems in multi-carrier environments (SCADAs), optimal energy dispatching, improved energy data analytics through AI and Semantic Web applications and energy efficiency through ICT behavioural change. In the aforementioned domains, he has published over 40 scientific and technical articles covering international and national journal, conference, and workshop contributions. He also continuously serves as a reviewer for respectable international journals (Energy Conversion Management, Applied Energy, Energy & Buildings (Elsevier) and Sustainable Cities & Society (Springer)).

valentina-janev-4603787Dr Valentina Janev is a Senior Researcher at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, University of Belgrade, Serbia. She graduated in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia and received the PhD degree in the field of Semantic Web technologies from the University of Belgrade, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She worked as a Researcher Assistant at the Institute Jozef Štefan, Ljubljana, Slovenia (1991-1994), Guest Researcher at the Technical University of Vienna, Austria (1995-1996) and Consultant and Education Manager at SAS Institute, Slovenia (1999-2001). Since 1996, she has participated in many information systems projects for clients in Serbia and the region, coordinating 2 of them (see LAMBDA). She has taken part in many research projects funded by the European Commission including 2 H2020 projects (LAMBDA, SLIDEWIKI), 5 FP7 projects (LOD2, EMILI, GEO-KNOW, HELENA, GENDERTIME), 1 CIP/EIP project (SHARE-PSI), 1 FP6 project (Web4WEB), 1 Interreg project (MOVECO), 1 IPA Adriatic (PACINNO), 1 SEE project (FORSEE), 2 COST actions (CA18209, CA19134); and 2 projects funded by the BMBF (NoSQL-Net, CognitiveEng-Net). She published 1 authored book, 1 edited book and around 90 papers as journal, book, conference, and workshop contributions in these fields. She was a Serbian Ambassador for the European Linked Data Contest (in 2015 and 2016). She serves as an expert evaluator of EC Framework Programme Projects; as a reviewer of respectable international journals including International Journal on Semantic Web and Information Systems (IGI Global), International Journal of Digital Earth (Taylor & Francis), Information Systems Management (Taylor & Francis), International Journal of Intelligent Information Systems (Science Publishing Group) and American Journal of Software Engineering and Applications (Science Publishing Group). lazar-berbakov-9852997Dr Lazar Berbakov received the M.Sc. degree in Telecommunications engineering from the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, Serbia, in 2007. He defended his Ph.D. thesis entitled “Collaborative Beamforming Schemes for Wireless Sensor Networks with Energy Harvesting Capabilities” from the Department for Signal theory and telecommunications, Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain, in 2013. In 2014, he joined Mihajlo Pupin Institute, Belgrade, Serbia, where he serves as a Research Associate. He participated in FP7 SPARTACUS and R&D projects financed by the Ministry of Science and Technological Development of Serbia. In SPARTACUS project, he served as the main software architect and developer of FLARE mobile application for indoor positioning and situation awareness in emergency situations. Currently, he is involved in 3 H2020 research projects where he is contributing to the design and implementation of IoT architectures. He published more than 20 papers as journal and conference contributions to indoor positioning and IoT topics. His main research interests include indoor positioning, Internet of things and emergency management.

dejan-paunovic-6347258Dejan Paunović, Dipl. Ing, has received a Dipl. Ing. degree at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade. He has been employed with the Mihajlo Pupin Institute since 2003. He is involved in scientific projects financed by the Serbian Ministry of Science and he took part in several EU FP6, FP7, HORIZON 2020 and HORIZON EUROPE projects.

He has experience in enterprise application software development, web application architecture, client/server programming, database and web development. His interests include programming languages, databases, algorithms, web technology design and implementation, and are focused on the design, analysis and implementation of software systems.

deapujic-8525309Dea Jelić, MSc, got her BSc in EE & CS degree at the School of Electrical Engeneering, University of Belgrade in 2018. She has since been working on different data driven problems in the energy domain, with a specific focus on solving the Non-Intrusive Load Monitoring problem using beyond-state-of-the-art convolutional neural networks and forecasting production of renewable sources by employing various machine learning algorithms. Her work is mostly based on the implementation of various novel artificial intelligence approaches and Big data processing techniques and is developed in the context of four active H2020 projects – InBetween, RESPOND, REACT and LAMBDA.

m-jelic-bio-9247569Marko Jelić, MSc, obtained his title of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Bachelor in 2018, and later, his Master’s degree in 2019, at the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade. Currently, he works as a Research Associate at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute and actively participates in several European and Serbian research projects. His primary research focus, which he also explores in the context of his doctoral studies, revolves around modern applications of optimization algorithms in the field of energy management automation in heat pump systems, as well as hybrid energy systems utilizing renewable energy sources and batteries. In addition, Marko is involved in the development, implementation, and deployment of various services across multiple platforms based on distributed sensors and actuators, the Internet of Things, and smart homes, all with the ultimate goal of increasing energy efficiency. These services include various optimizations, consumer efficiency measurements, user consulting, and the evaluation of specific control actions applicable to energy assets.

katarinastankovicKatarina Stanković got her BSc EE & CS degree at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, in September, and later, her Master’s degree at the same faculty. She has been employed as a Junior Research Assistant at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute since February 2020. Currently, she is involved in European research project from the H2020 programme, IDEAS, and her main professional field is in domain of control systems and automation. Precisely, she is working on design of an optimal control and regulation strategy for energy efficient HVAC system, with renewable energy sources integrated. Katarina’s work includes PLC programming and HMI design.

marijapopovicMarija Popović completed her bachelor studies at the School of Electrical Engineering in Belgrade, Department of Computer Engineering and Information Theory, in September 2019, and in 2020 she acquired a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering. Besides being enrolled as a PhD student, she has been employed at The Institute Mihajlo Pupin as a Junior Research Assistant since October 2020. Marija is involved in projects in cooperation with Fraunhofer Gesellschaft organization, but also in the European H2020 TRAPEZE project, which aims to develop a platform that will provide users better control over their data, by applying modern technology in the field of data protection. Apart from researching various mechanisms that could improve personal data security and privacy, her interests involve developing web and mobile applications.

MilosNenadovicMilos Nenadović earned his B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, in 2020, and later his M.Sc. degree in 2022. He currently works as a Research Associate at the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin”, actively participating in European projects belonging to Horizon 2020 (HESTIA) and Horizon Europe (IntelliLung). The focus of his research is mostly based on the implementation of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence algorithms, utilising novel approaches in reinforcement learning for solving problems in the bio-medical domain.

AndjelaMarkovicAnđela Marković earned her BSc in Electrical Engineering & Computer Science at the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, in 2022. She continued her academic journey by enrolling in a Master’s program in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, and simultaneously began her professional career as a Junior Research Assistant at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute. During her time at the Institute, Anđela was actively involved in three scientific research projects funded by the H2020 European program: LEGOFIT, HYCOOL-IT, and OMEGA-X. Her contributions to these projects included developing innovative solutions in domains such as machine learning, control systems, decision support systems, and modeling. These projects were primarily focused on efficient energy utilization, with a particular emphasis on adopting green and alternative energy sources. In addition to her practical work at the Institute, Anđela is also pursuing her doctoral studies.

IgorJovanovicIgor Jovanović completed his Bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in September 2021 and earned his Master’s degree in August 2022 from the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade. In March 2023, he became a Junior Research Assistant at the Mihajlo Pupin Institute. Currently, Igor is actively involved in two HORIZON EUROPE projects, namely FEDECOM and InterPED. His primary focus is on optimization algorithms merging Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, Sizing Optimization, and Demand Side Management. He continually explores new solutions using Artificial Intelligence and contributes to the development of the Energy Management System, combining deterministic and stochastic optimization methods. Igor’s research particularly emphasizes applying algorithms to integrate renewable energy sources and energy storage systems for residential areas, ranging from single houses to larger communities.
