The tradition of collaboration between the Mihajlo Pupin Institute and IAESTE spans several decades and provides students with valuable experience, as they gain the opportunity to get acquainted with modern technologies, develop professional skills, and build international friendships that open doors to their future careers. This year, in July and August, Turkish student Berk Yildirim from Ege University participated in an internship at the Institute. During his studies in computer engineering, Berk developed a particular interest in computer networks, cybersecurity, and IoT, and the projects he worked on allowed him to gain practical experience in Linux system administration. At IMP-Computer Systems, where he spent the previous months, Berk became familiar with the Institute’s rich history and ongoing projects.

“During the six-week internship, I had the opportunity to work with my mentor, Dr. Borislav Đorđević, on analyzing the performance of Linux file systems in a Proxmox hypervisor environment. Through this project, I acquired important skills in Linux systems, virtualization, and experimental research methods, and we transformed the results into a joint scientific paper. Beyond the professional aspect, my internship was greatly enriched by living in Belgrade and experiencing the local culture. I visited Kalemegdan Fortress and the National Museum, which allowed me to appreciate the city’s rich history and architecture. In my free time, I enjoyed walks along the Danube and Sava rivers, swimming at Ada Ciganlija, and socializing with locals, which made my experience even more engaging. I was particularly impressed by Serbian cuisine, pljeskavica quickly became my favorite dish. I was also amazed by the city’s dedication to preserving green spaces. This internship provided me with valuable knowledge and practical experience that will benefit me in my further studies and future career in computer systems and research. I plan to continue developing these skills through new projects and academic work,” Berk said in his testimonial.
