The Mihajlo Pupin Institute marked International Girls in ICT Day with a series of workshops, interactive activities, and a fun escape room challenge.

Girls from “Sveti Sava” Elementary School (Vračar), talented students from the Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin Regional Talent Center (Pančevo), and children of our employees visited the Institute, where they had the opportunity to try out a tank and aircraft simulator, see a 3D printer in action, learn how sound transmission works, explore smart home technologies, and understand alarm systems.

Challenging tasks and coding workshops were led by our colleague Isidora Simeunović, while the panel discussion, moderated by our guest speakers, featured inspiring contributions from Dr. Valentina Janev, Dr. Slavica Boštjančič Rakas, Dr. Iva Salom, Dea Jelić, Olivera Kadić, and Dr. Sanja Popović Pantić.
The students had a chance to hear answers to practical and fun questions such as “The network is down, and you urgently need to send a file — what would you do?”, “What is the cloud?”, “What’s the funniest IT mistake you’ve made?”, and “What’s the difference between formatting and deleting?”, while also learning about the career journeys and key experiences of successful women engineers from our Institute.

“We are proud that, as the oldest ICT institute in the region, we had the opportunity to host 20 girls and introduce them to the exciting possibilities of engineering. This visit is part of a broader initiative within the European STREAM IT project, which aims to reduce gender inequalities in STEM fields by empowering girls and women to pursue education, research, and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The project promotes gender-inclusive career paths and supports educational institutions through knowledge sharing and capacity building to remove gender barriers in STEM,” said Dr. Sanja Popović Pantić, Head of the Center for Research and Development of Science and Technology

International Girls in ICT Day encourages girls to pursue their interests and consider careers in this dynamic industry.
The event is part of a series of activities organized by the Mihajlo Pupin Institute’s Gender Equality Committee, dedicated to advancing gender equality and empowering women in the ICT sector.
