As part of the event “Vukobratović Robotics Days”, held in Belgrade last week, Prof. Dr. Aleksandar Rodić, Head of the Robotics Center at the Institute Mihajlo Pupin, delivered a lecture titled “From Reliable Sources – The Life and Legacy of Miomir Vukobratović.” The lecture honored the life and work of Miomir Vukobratović, a pioneer of humanoid robotics and a full member of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Drawing on archival materials, personal accounts, and his early-career opportunity to work alongside Academician Vukobratović, Prof. Rodić highlighted his seminal contributions, most notably the ZeroMomentPoint theory, which remains a cornerstone of stable locomotion in humanoid robots worldwide. Special attention was given to Vukobratović’s interdisciplinary approach to robot development and the lasting impact he made in the fields of biomechanics, automation, and advanced robotics.
Prof. Rodić also reflected on his professional collaboration with Vukobratović and emphasized how his work continues to shape contemporary research at the Robotics Center.

Miomir Vukobratović remains the only Academician to emerge from the Institute ‘Mihajlo Pupin’ and to have built his entire career, from the very first to the very last day, within its walls. His professional journey and scientific legacy make him a truly unique and irreplaceable figure in the history of IMP.
