Engineer, inventor, and Columbia University professor; Pulitzer Prize laureate and the scientist whose coils paved the way for global communication, Mihajlo Pupin was born 171 years ago in the small Banat village of Idvor.

The Mihajlo Pupin Institute celebrated the birthday of the scientist whose name it has proudly borne for 79 years. To mark the anniversary of Mihajlo Pupin’s birth, the central ceremony of the “October Encounters – Idvor 2025” event was held at the “Mihajlo Idvorski Pupin” National Home.

In addition to Pupin’s birthday, the event marked several anniversaries: 90 years since the establishment of the Pupin Endowment, 110 years since the founding of NAKE, and 125 years since the discovery of the Pupin coil.
Alongside numerous officials, representatives of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute also attended the ceremony. The gathering provided an opportunity for the “Mihajlo Pupin” Regional Center for Talents from Pančevo to present awards to the most successful students – participants of the summer camp that has been held for 15 years thanks to donations from our Institute.
On behalf of the Institute, the letter of appreciation for a selfless contribution to the RCT was received by Aleksandar Car, Deputy Director of IMP-Automatika, who emphasized that supporting young talents is a fundamental part of our scientific mission.

“Through our participation in European projects and the placement of innovative products born from our research, on both domestic and international markets, we strive to honor the name of the great Mihajlo Pupin. With donations and mentoring support, we send a clear message that education, quality, and dedication are the values we nurture within our own organization. We will continue to support initiatives like this in the years ahead,” said Aleksandar Car, Deputy Director of IMP-Automatika.
