During a recent meeting for the R2D2 project in Paris, representatives of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute—Goran Jakupović, Igor Bundalo, and Marija Popović—participated in productive sessions that brought together representatives of this multinational project, which includes 17 partners from 10 European countries. The R2D2 project, funded under the Horizon Europe program, aims to enhance the resilience, security, and reliability of power systems through a set of innovative solutions and tools designed for transmission and distribution system operators, as well as regional coordination centers.

As the project has entered its third and final year, the main focus of presentations and discussions was on demonstration activities within each of the project’s pilots (Serbia, Slovenia, Greece, and Portugal). The IMP team members presented the current status of the tools they are developing for the Serbian pilot, which involves Elektromreža Srbije – EMS AD and the Security Coordination Center – SCC. All developed tools are in the final phase of implementation and preparation for installation within the pilot environment, followed by a phase of testing and validation. These solutions significantly contribute to improving efficiency, safety, and transparency in power systems by enabling centralized planning and process optimization, early detection of critical situations, and effective coordination and system restoration, all in compliance with European regulations.

In addition to demonstration activities, the IMP team is also responsible for overseeing the implementation of isolated environments and digital twins across all tools within the project. This task has been carried out through a literature research phase, where potential applications in power systems were analyzed, followed by the integration of these environments, and culminating in the validation of the developed solutions.

In the coming period, IMP will focus on activities to further exploit the developed tools and analyze possibilities for extending and replicating the implemented solutions in different environments.
