We had a pleasure to listen to the lecture entitled “The secret of great silence of cosmic civilizations” held by Dr Milan Dimitrijević regarding the World Year of Astronomy.
Always popular topic and dilemma “Is there or is there not life beyond the Earth?“caused interest and attracted a great number of listeners who came to find out the answer to the question set by Nobel Prize winner Enrique Fermi. Having listened to the alleged evidences about a great number of civilizations that had existed and existed in the Universe, he asked at a moment “Where are they?” This question that indicates why any sign of existence of any technological civilization in Cosmos was not discovered until today is known in astronomy as Fermi’s paradox.
Dr Dimitrijević acquainted us with previous researches conducted for alien civilizations and attempts to establish communication with intelligent life forms in Cosmos. At the lecture one could also hear about the possibility of occurrence of life and development of societies with technological civilizations capable for cosmic flights.
