We have a great reason to be proud of the achievements of our colleague Goran Dimic, who was granted the IEEE Signal Processing Society Best Paper Award in 2007.

So far, only several of our countrymen were awarded this prize and most of them have been engaged in science projects abroad. The significance of this award is even greater for our Institute, since Goran Dimic came back from abroad. After graduation at Electrical Engineering School at Belgrade University, Goran completed his PhD studies in the USA, University of Minnesota and then decided to come back to Belgrade and to continue his career in our Institute. The prestigious award of the IEEE – The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, with more than 360.000 members from 175 countries, is usually granted every year to 2 or 3 experts for the best papers in various research areas published in the last couple of years.

Goran was granted the award for the paper On downlink beamforming with greedy user selection: performance analysis and a simple new algorithm, co-authored with N. Sidiropoulos in «IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing», vol. 53, no. 10 in October, 2005.

The Awards Ceremony is scheduled to take place on April the 1st, 2008 in Las Vegas, USA, during the 33rd International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing – ICASSP 2008.
