We had the pleasure of welcoming students from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of Applied Studies (VIŠER) to the Institute Mihajlo Pupin, where we introduced them to a selection of projects developed within IMP-Computer Systems.

During the visit, students had the opportunity to experience a real engineering environment firsthand and explore some of our implemented systems – including SAWAS/AWOS airport meteorology solutions, military simulators, the new VRange virtual shooting range system, and advanced software-hardware integration concepts. Special attention was given to the practical challenges behind developing complex real-time systems.

It is always a pleasure to share practical knowledge and engineering experience with young talent and to show what it takes to develop mission-critical systems that operate 24/7.

This month marked the official launch of SAIFA – Serbian Artificial Intelligence Factory Antenna, a project coordinated by the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade (ETF) and funded by the EuroHPC Joint Undertaking (EuroHPC JU).

SAIFA is part of the broader European effort to build the next generation of AI Factories – interconnected environments combining high-performance computing (HPC), artificial intelligence infrastructure, advanced applications, expertise, and user support capacities across Europe.

As the Serbia’s AI Factory Antenna, SAIFA aims to strengthen access to AI and HPC capacities for academia, research, public administration, startups, and industry, while contributing to the integration of national resources and expertise into the wider European AI ecosystem. The project will support the development of AI applications, collaboration frameworks, user support mechanisms, and knowledge exchange aligned with emerging European technological priorities.

The SAIFA consortium brings together partners from academia, research, innovation, and public administration: the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade as project coordinator, the Institute of Physics Belgrade, Mihajlo Pupin Institute, Institute for Artificial Intelligence Research and Development of Serbia, Faculty of Science, University of Kragujevac, Institute of Molecular Genetics and Genetic Engineering, University of Belgrade, and the Office for Information Technologies and eGovernment of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. Together, the consortium combines expertise in artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, engineering, data infrastructures, digital governance, and sector-specific AI applications, creating a multidisciplinary framework for the development of Serbia’s AI Factory Antenna within the broader European AI ecosystem. In particular, the SAIFA project will connect the Serbian ecosystem with the Greek  Pharos and the Italian IT4LIA.  

The team from the Institute Mihajlo Pupin, Dr Valentina Janev, Katarina Stanković and Miloš Nenadović, presented our activities and the possibilities for integration of services from the energy domain in the larger Serbian AI ecosystem.

Under the slogan “Technology Unmasked,” the 68th International Fair of Technics and Technical Achievements will turn Belgrade into a meeting point of science, innovation, and technologies shaping the future from May 19 to 22.

This year once again, Mihajlo Pupin Institute will showcase a range of innovative solutions developed by our researchers and engineers.

Visitors will have the opportunity to explore our latest technologies: from the LVDT signal conditioner and measurement transducers, to an innovative plant monitoring system that provides farmers with real-time insights into crop health, as well as a modular geo-positioning transmitter for passenger, transport, and special-purpose vehicles, and our railway dispatcher control system.

We invite you to visit our stand in Hall 2C at the Belgrade Fair from May 19 – 22 and experience firsthand how science becomes real-world technology.

This year’s TTBD Fair at the Faculty of Transport and Traffic Engineering, University of Belgrade, brought together students, engineers, and industry professionals through inspiring conversations, knowledge sharing, and valuable exchange of experiences. Representing the Institute Mihajlo Pupin, Sofija Stamatovski, MSc in Transport Engineering, introduced students to the world of real engineering systems and modern transport technologies through first-hand insights and practical examples.

The event was an opportunity to showcase the projects, technologies, and systems we develop, while also hearing the ideas, ambitions, and perspectives of future engineers shaping the transport sector. Innovation happens when expertise and experience meet the fresh energy and curiosity of young people.

We would like to thank the organizers for the invitation and look forward to future gatherings, new collaborations, and continued cooperation with the next generation of engineers.

Thousands of digital inputs, measurement points, digital and analog commands, hundreds of graphical displays, and thousands of interconnected ladder logic lines have contributed to the successful delivery of another major and strategically important project for Elektroprivreda Srbije, enabled through the implementation of the control system and application software developed, engineered, and tested by IMP-Automatika.

The Thermal Power Plants Nikola Tesla system continues to meet environmental compliance requirements through the application of advanced solutions provided by IMP-Automatika.

The successful realization of the project was the result of the coordinated efforts of a multidisciplinary team consisting of:

• the management team of IMP-Automatika,
• experienced design engineers responsible for the preparation of workshop and technical documentation, with extensive expertise in engineering and execution within EPS thermal power facilities,
• young technicians who demonstrated their knowledge, dedication, and technical capabilities on projects of similar or even greater complexity.

Throughout every phase of the project — from preparation and engineering to commissioning and implementation — the team ensured the complete development of the system through application software, transforming it into a transparent, reliable, and fully manageable solution. The system was subsequently handed over to EPS colleagues for the continued operation and management of the flue gas desulfurization plant.

The revitalization of the control system at the reversible hydropower plant “Bajina Bašta” has been completed, with a significant contribution from the IMP-Automatika team on this complex Elektroprivreda Srbije project.
As the only facility in the system capable of both generating electricity and pumping water between Lake Zaovine and Lake Perućac, the plant plays a crucial role in balancing the grid; especially important with the growing share of variable renewable energy sources.

According to Milan Bjedov, Head of Hydropower Control Systems, the project demonstrated that such a complex system can be successfully delivered using domestic expertise and equipment. 

Thorough testing confirmed reliable operation in both generator and pumping modes, ensuring long-term stability and the continued importance of this key national energy asset.

Many of the world’s greatest scientists began as curious children. Those who carry that curiosity into adulthood often go on to achieve remarkable breakthroughs, such as Mihajlo Pupin, the scientist whose name our Institute proudly bears.

Inspired by this idea, we organized a family visit to the Museum of Science and Technology – Belgrade, where our employees explored the exhibits with their children. The tour was tailored for younger audiences, and each exhibit became a starting point for conversations about how ideas are born and how technology shapes the world around us.
It was especially inspiring to see artifacts from the history of Serbian science and technology, such as the renowned Belgrade Hand and the CER-10, the first digital computer developed at the Institute Mihajlo Pupin.

We are certain this won’t be the last initiative of its kind – because among today’s curious visitors, there may well be a future engineer in the making.

Our country has recognized hydrogen as one of the key energy carriers in its Energy Development Strategy through 2040. Will green hydrogen become a cornerstone of the energy transition? How will its role evolve in balancing power systems and decarbonizing industry? And where is the opportunity for companies developing advanced control and SCADA solutions?

These were among the central topics of the two-day international conference “Green Hydrogen as a Pathway to the Energy Transition”. Particular attention was given to the integration of renewable energy sources, energy storage through hydrogen, and the development of flexible, digitalized energy systems.

Representing the Institute Mihajlo Pupin, participants from IMP-AUTOMATION LTD BELGRADE included Vladimir Nerandžić, Head of Engineering for Thermal Power Plants,  Borko Vušović, Lead Implementation Engineer,  and Željko Damljanović, MSc in Electrical Engineering and Computing. Their participation focused on tracking key trends in the development of hydrogen infrastructure and its application in modern energy systems.

For the Institute Mihajlo Pupin, the use of hydrogen as an energy storage medium opens up significant opportunities for applying existing and developing new solutions in the areas of SCADA and advanced control systems, grid optimization and balancing, integration of diverse energy sources, and the use of digital platforms and AI in the energy sector.

Intertraffic Amsterdam, the leading international exhibition dedicated to innovations in road traffic and transport infrastructure, concludes today.

During the event, colleagues from the Institute Mihajlo Pupin had the opportunity to explore the latest technological solutions aimed at improving traffic safety, enhancing the sustainability of transport systems, and enabling more efficient traffic management.

This year’s edition of the exhibition focused on smart mobility, digital infrastructure, and intelligent transport systems (ITS), with a strong emphasis on the application of artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and connected traffic systems in the development of modern transport solutions.

A small act can make a life-saving difference.
In February, the Institute Mihajlo Pupin organized another voluntary blood donation drive – the third one in the past two years. Each time, the goal remains the same: to help those who need it the most.

Once again, our colleagues showed that solidarity and care for others are not just values we talk about, but values we live by. Every donation has the potential to save several lives, which makes initiatives like this especially meaningful for our community.
