In recent years, artificial intelligence has rapidly developed and is being applied globally, becoming one of the nine key pillars of the Industry 4.0 model. The application of AI in various industrial sectors, best practices in manufacturing, energy, mining, agriculture, and robotics, as well as machine learning, will be some of the topics covered at the 42nd Industry 4.0 Panel. The event will take place on Wednesday, September 25th, from 10 AM to 3 PM at the  Institute Mihajlo Pupin.

The “Artificial Intelligence and Industry 4.0” panel, organized by the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade, is designed as a platform for experts from different fields to discuss the challenges and opportunities brought by Industry 4.0. Participants will have the opportunity to hear firsthand experiences, learn about the latest trends, ask questions, and exchange opinions.

Autoceste FBiH and Autoputevi RS signed an agreement on connecting electronic toll collection systems by using TAG devices throughout the Bosnia and Herzegovina territory. On the entire territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the highway users will pass through toll booths without stopping, while paying tolls contactless by using a personal TAG device.

As the supplier of the entire toll collection system in the Republic of Srpska and the supplier of licenses for the toll collection system in the Bosnia and Herzegovina Federation, the Serbian Institute Mihajlo Pupin from Belgrade, together with BS Telekom from Sarajevo, ensured the technical realization of the project of connecting the two electronic toll collection systems.

When compared to the manual toll collection, the electronic toll collection is simpler, faster and cheaper way to pay tolls and the mentioned project of connecting two systems enables the use of one TAG device in the entire territory. It leads to significant timesaving and safer travel, without stopping at toll stations, which is especially noticeable in in the upcoming summer months, when the highway traffic volumes significantly increase.

The kick-off meeting of the RE-FEM project was held on 15-16 December 2022 in Bratislava, Slovakia. It was organised by the project coordinator, HETFA Research Institute, and hosted by the Slovak Business Agency.

The RE-FEM – „Upskilling pathways for REsiliency in the post-Covid era for FEMale Entrepreneurs“ project will work on decreasing gender inequality in entrepreneurship by supporting the capacity building of adult educators and women entrepreneurs. The project is funded by the Erasmus+ Programme. Within RE-FEM, Institute Mihajlo Pupin is leading the work package dedicated to developing a final study including recommendations for policy and practices.

The consortium gathered for the first time in Bratislava with the aim to establish the main framework of project management and lay the foundations of good cooperation. The event was focused on several topics related to the thematic work packages in order to start project implementation. Furthermore, the meeting included sessions dedicated to introducing project partners, successful project management and communication, financial management, IPR notes and quality assurance.

On behalf of IMP, Dr. Dijana Štrbac and Srđan Orcević, MSc. Ecc. attended the meeting. In the session dedicated to presentation of partner organisations, Dr. Dijana Štrbac introduced Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” and Science and Technology Policy Research Centre. She has also presented the work package led by the IMP in terms of its objectives, tasks, timeline and contribution to the project results and milestones. Srđan Orcević, MSc. Ecc. contributed to the discussion related to financial management and financial administration of the project in accordance with the rules of the Erasmus+ Programme.

On Saturday, 10.12.2022. the School of Electrical Engineering, University of Belgrade, organized a ceremony at which the most outstanding professors and the best students of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in the 20221/2022 school year were awarded with a special certificate of honor.

On that occasion, the general director of the Institute”Mihajlo Pupin”, Dr. Nikola Tomašević, awarded the certificates of honor to Aleksandar Rakić, Andrej Jakovljević and Milan Danković, the best graduates from the Software Engineering studies module, achieving an average of 10 in the 20221/2022 school year.

The Telecommunications Forum TELFOR is an international annual meeting of professionals working in the broad fields of Telecommunications and Information Technologies. The jubilee 30th Telecommunications Forum was organized on the 15th and 16th of November 2022, in Crowne Plaza, Belgrade, Serbia.

This year, besides contributing with a large number of scientific papers, the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” (IMP) has organized the Open Event “Smart and Innovative eNERGY management” in the SINERGY project framework.

The mission of SINERGY is to strengthen the existing research capacity and further unlock the innovation potential of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” – IMP (Serbia) in one of the most important research areas of today – Smart Energy Management.

To accomplish this ambitious project goal, the strategic partnership and exchange of multidisciplinary “know-how” and competencies have been agreed upon with two leading EU research institutions in the domain, the Austrian Institute of Technology – AIT, Electric Energy Systems Competence Unit (Austria) and the University of Galway, Information Research Unit for Sustainable Engineering (NUIG, Ireland).

The IMP partners from the Region were invited to take part in the Open event and other SINERGY activities.

On the 16th of November, as the invited speaker of the SINERGY Open Event, Prof. Aleksandra Krkoleva Mateska, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Ss Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia, gave a talk on the Demand side management aspects in Smart Grids on “Smart and Innovative eNERGY management”, collocated with the TELFOR 2022 Conference, Crowne Plaza.

Prof. Dimitar Taškovski, Dean and Prof. Vladimir Dimčev, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology, Ss Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, North Macedonia, Prof. Vedad Pašić, Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, University of Tuzla contributed to the work of the SINERGY Advisory Board and provided suggestions for the further impact of the IMP Centre of Excellence in Smart Energy Management to stakeholders from the Region.

Additionally, at the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin”premises, we have organized the 3rd SINERGY Ph.D. Workshop, which was conducted by Dr. Kevin Byron. The young researchers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, and Austria that are doing research on complex energy management topics had an opportunity to create maps of their individual research progress and discuss methods for boosting their creativity, innovation, and problem-solving skills.

This year’s was the 30th anniversary of the international TELFOR conference, which was held on November 15 and 16, 2022 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belgrade. The Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” had a significant participation in TELFOR conference, being one of the sponsors and presenting its wide range of activities, and encouraging the participation of its employees through a large number of presented scientific papers.

TELFOR was also an opportunity for a special technical-commercial session “Solutions for signaling and telecommunications in railways”, presented by Ivan Kokić, research and development engineer of the Institute Mihajlo Pupin, providing all the information on the railway systems and communications development program.

The 30^th anniversary of the TELFOR conference was an opportunity to invite our international partners and cooperators to assist and present their achievements during a one-day SINERGY H2020 project Open event, organized by Dr. Valentina Janev on 16. November. All interested conference visitors were invited to attend and participate in the Open event workshop. The general director of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin”, Dr. Nikola Tomašević, opened this special part of the TELFOR conference, presenting the most significant aspects of the European projects in which the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” is involved.

The performance of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” was additionally enhanced by the participation of the deputy director of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin”, Dr. Marko Batić, in the panel session “Do you know what digitalization/digital transformation is?” where numerous aspects of understanding and implementation of digitization and digital transformation processes were deeply discussed.

The conference visitors had an opportunity to get to know more about a wide range of solutions from the Institute’s rich portfolio, by having a talk with our colleagues at a specially designed stand.
