During its official visit to the Republic of Serbia, the delegation of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe visited the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” on Thursday, January 18, 2024.

The delegation of the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe was led by the Prime Minister and Head of Government, H.E. Dr Patrice Emery Trovoada, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Community, H.E. Mister Gareth Haddad do Espirito Santo Guadalupe, Plenipotentiary Minister, Director for International Cooperation, Mister Américo Viegas, Lieutenant, ADC of the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Mister Wilker Ney da Vera Cruz Viegas and Assistant to the Prime Minister and Head of Government, Madam Ana Maculada Pinheiro da Cruz Barros.

The delegation was hosted by Dr. Nikola Tomašević, Director General of the Institute, Željko Stojković, Industrial Cooperation Director and Vladimir Simeunović, Director of IMP – Computer Systems.

On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, the meeting was attended by H.E. Miloš Perišić, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Republic of Angola.

During the meeting, the delegation of DR Sao Tome and Principe and the representatives of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” discussed potential cooperation with the goal of more efficient government administration, especially related to the development of dedicated information systems primarily for e-government. One topic of the meeting was potential cooperation in the fields of energy efficiency and communication systems, as well as the possibility of engineers exchange for high level knowledge transfer and closer cooperation.

In the spirit of New Year’s and Christmas holidays, on December 31, 2023, in the Great Hall, a special New Year’s celebration traditionally held for the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” employees. Although the 2023 will be remembered as not an easy one, the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” can be proud of numerous successes in various fields and areas.

In his speech, the Director General of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin”, Nikola Tomašević PhD, emphasized the importance of the engagement of all colleagues during 2023, thus having the 2023. with high quality results, both in the research and commercial projects. A special contribution to the outstanding results of the work of the “Mihajlo Pupin” Institute was made by several colleagues who were awarded the “Best Associate” award on that occasion.

After the awards were presented, the cocktail party continued with the exchange of good wishes for an even more successful 2024.

On Thursday, 14.12.2023., the Mihajlo Pupin Institute had the honor and pleasure of hosting Katarina Andrić, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The aim of the visit was for the ambassador to get acquainted with the work and products of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, as well as to consider the possibilities of establishment and improvement of the cooperation with B. R. Venezuela.

In front of the Mihajlo Pupin Institute, the ambassador was welcomed by the Director General, Nikola Tomašević, Ph.D, El. Eng., and his Assistant Director for Industrial Cooperation, Željko Stojković, El. Eng. They have presented different segments of the commercial program portfolio, including road traffic, railways, the electricity industry, military program, and others.

The ambassador Katarina Andrić showed great interest in helping place our products on the Venezuela market.

One of the most important international conferences in Serbia, TELFOR, was organized this year for the 31st time. It was held on November 21 and 22, 2023 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Belgrade.

The Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” has participated in several presented scientific papers and has also been one conference sponsors.

In a specially organized and announced technical-commercial session, Vladimir Nešić, B.Sc. Eng. from “IMP – Automation” has presented the portfolio of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” in the field of ITS systems through the presentation ” Highways Traffic Management – Intelligent Transport Systems – ITS”.

At the specially designed stand, the conference visitor could talk to Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” colleagues who provided additional information about the latest results from numerous commercial projects as well as projects financed from European Union funds.

The great team from IMP-Automatika, including Miloš Milosavljević, Jovan Nedić, Savo Nestorović and Dušan Miletić, ran on November 12, 2023. “Plavi krug oko Ade”, a race to support people with diabetes. Numerous friends and family members joined them.

his humanitarian race is only the first step, because the runners of IMP-Automatika have the Belgrade half-marathon ahead of them. They will continue to confirm their excellent psycho-physical readiness.

From 4.-6. October 2023, the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” had the honor to host a high delegation of Caminhos de Ferro de Luanda (CFL), Angola’s railway, consisting of the respected general manager Manuel Kandakanda, special adviser Julio Bango Joaquim, and two signaling engineers.

Colleagues from CFL had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the wide range of Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” products in the field of railway signaling and communications, as well as the exceptional capacity of the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” when it comes to design and implementation in that area. We had the opportunity to see for ourselves the determination of our colleagues from CFL to involve the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” as a valuable partner in the process of accelerated modernization of the railways in Angola, which is underway.

As a part of the three-day stay, the Angola delegation visited the Belgrade-Budapest high-speed railway, where the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” has installed its own signal-security and telecommunication equipment, while representing the largest national subcontractor of SCRSC, a Chinese partner that performs signal-security and telecommunication works on this line.

We are proudly presenting the result of long and hard work on the very challenging project of obtaining the SIL3 certificate for the BPC (Overspeed Protection Device) turbine electronic overspeed protection device.

After the creation of 46 documents, 774 requests, the development of 7 versions of printed circuit boards (PCB), more than 20,000 lines of code, the execution of 558 tests, the BPC device is SIL3 certified.

This completes the certification process of the hydraulic (TCimp-trip block) and electronic part (BPC), and we especially highlight the dedicated work of many of our colleagues, especially Svetlana Despotović, Miloš Stanković, Branislav Šašić, Predrag Marić, and Aleksa Srećković.

We are ready for new ideas!

From September 25 to 28, 2023, the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin” took part in the 11^th international Defense Fair “Partner 2023”. The fair was held at the Belgrade Fair, under the auspices of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Serbia.

For many years now, the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin, particularly the IMP Computer Systems department, which has been very successfully engaged in the research and development in the field of military technology and weapons, and “Partner 2023” was a good opportunity to present part of its solutions portfolio in these areas.

We have presented airspace control center solution and several simulators and trainers, namely the NORA B52 self-propelled howitzer simulator, the M84A tank full mission simulator, the functional model for the “Malyutka 9M14” guided missile trainer and the conceptual solution of the “Strela 10” air defense system trainer.

The International Defense Fair was visited by numerous delegations from all over the world, as well as by the representatives of NATO, the European Defense Agency and other international military and security organizations.

From September 26 till 28^th 2023, the Institute “Mihajlo Pupin”
had an honor to host the International SINERGY Conference on Smart and Innovative eNERGY management! The conference was a part of the activities within the European project SINERGY Capacity building in Smart and Innovative eNERGY management (GA No. 952140).

During the three days of the conference we gathered 27 papers, and 68 authors from a large number of countries. The conference presenters raised a number of questions in the field of smart networks, energy efficiency, big data processing, while also discussing the application of different artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches for big data analysis, combined with a number of other relevant topics.

On Tuesday, 26.09.2023, one of the most distinguishing presenters, Professor Dr Stergios Vakalis (University of the Aegean, Greece) held a lecture on “The role of bioenergy on the increased penetration of RES – the green transition of Lesvos island”. Then, a specially organized panel session brought additional dynamics to the conference atmosphere, while on Thursday, September 28, 2023. Professor Dr. Maria-Esther Vidal (TIB, Germany), held an extremely interesting lecture on “Knowledge Graphs in the Energy Sector: Challenges to Enhance Transparency and Trustability in Energy Data Ecosystems”.

We would like to thank all the authors, presenters and all the colleagues who joined the lectures and the panel session, took an active part in the discussion and opened up a number of new questions in the conference topic areas.
