Current trends in agricultural production are based on advanced technologies, including the extensive application of information technologies (IT). In particular, the usage of wireless sensor networks (WSN) and remote sensing (RS) ensure timely in-field access to data and enable prompt reactions. Agri-technical measures can be administered with more precision and effectiveness, thus providing higher food quality, environmental protection and considerable savings.
In addition, a better understanding of underlying processes, and validation and adjustments of the used models can be achieved. Coordinating institution of the project is Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad (Serbia). The consortium members are: University of Florence (Italy), Institute Jozef Stefan (Slovenia), Faculty of Agriculture at University of Novi Sad, Institute Mihajlo Pupin (Serbia), and Provinical Secretariat for Agriculture, Water Resources and Forestry of Vojvodina. The consortium members have been carefully chosen to initiate the coordination of research activities in the fields of WSN and RS applied to the precision agriculture. The project lasts from May 2008 to April 2011.
